The house is situated on the old moated site of Wynselowe Hall (13th century). See Hempstead after the Conquest for more information. The Old Hall was demolished after a fire in the late 18th century. The current house, using materials from original hall, was built c 1790 and extended 1988
In 1918, the site and cottage were sold as part of the Hempstead Estate.
